Disaster Recovery: It’s Not Just For Disasters Anymore

Some people view IT disaster recovery (DR) plans solely as insurance for events that will likely never happen. However, IT-DR can extend beyond declaration and execution during “disaster” events to be used as a real solution for both everyday and non-everyday scenarios.
In today’s technology-driven world, it’s no surprise that recent innovation has pushed the evolution of the traditional DR plan into a new form of efficiency. Cloud-based DR, aka Disaster Recovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS), has dramatically reduced the time it takes to recover IT systems (Recovery Time Object, or RTO) from days to hours or minutes, while at the same time reducing the amount of data that is lost in a recovery (Recovery Point Objective, or RPO) from days or weeks to seconds.
