Status Go: Proactive Leadership

Episode 86: Proactive Leadership

Holding a position of leadership has always required the navigation unchartered waters, maximizing agility and taking risks, but there is no doubt that 2020 has tested boundaries in each of these areas.

Our guest today, Steve Johns, CEO of OneCause sits down with Jeff Ton to share the backstory and rationale behind some of his key leadership decisions this year; decisions that set OneCause up for success despite the fact that their primary business model centered around in-person events when the pandemic hit.  Steve summarizes things perfectly by saying,  “We don’t dwell on the past, we don’t lay blame or set fault or engage in self pity.  We take inventory  of where we are right now, today.  We make a decision and then act for the change we want to see and then we stay committed to that until the ending.”

Steve Johns is the CEO of Indianapolis-based OneCause, Inc.  OneCause is a leader in online and event fundraising software for nonprofits.  They have helped over 6,000 nonprofits power over 20,000 fundraising campaigns; raising over $2.0 billion “for good.”  OneCause is uniquely positioned to lead the digital transformation of charitable giving already underway – but now accelerated by the Covid-19 global pandemic.  Steve is a 35-year veteran with experience in technology, corporate development, venture capital, entertainment and entrepreneurship. Immediately prior to joining OneCause, Steve was the CEO of the largest event production rigging company in the Midwest serving experiential marketing events, tradeshows, film & television and concert touring.
